Skangaroovia is a South Australian design studio specialising in lighting, furniture, and crafted objects. We collaborate with architects and designers to deliver project‑specific outcomes. Please contact us for further information.
Our name, Skangaroovia, was put forward as an alternative for South Australia in 1986, by the then director of the Art Gallery. It was a time when our State was at the vanguard of art and culture. Our studio’s philosophy is to project pride and confidence in South Australian design.
Mark Jones - Design Director
Mark Jones is Design Director at Skangaroovia. A founding owner and former Director of LEED Engineering, Mark’s interest in design eventually drew him to a new career in contemporary furniture design. In 2017 Mark trained at the New Zealand School of Fine Woodworking, before commencing design studies at the University of South Australia School of Art, Architecture and Design. In 2018 Mark established 215 Magill Studios in a purpose-built facility 5kms from the Adelaide CBD. As a member of the Helpmann Academy board, Mark is an active supporter of emerging South Australian visual and performing artists.
Mark has enjoyed success since turning his sights to design and making, becoming a two-time finalist in the national Clarence Prize for Furniture Design and securing private and commercial commissions for his work. Mark is supported by Bert and Charlie Jones in his design team at Skangaroovia.
Ellis (David) Moseley - Creative Director
Ellis is Creative Director and co-owner at Skangaroovia. He has a background as an award-winning visual artist, with solo exhibitions at contemporary galleries in South Australia (Hugo Michell Gallery, ILA, Hill-Smith Art Advisory) and Victoria (MARS Gallery, Monash Uni, Linden New Art).
Ellis completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) at Flinders University/ Adelaide College of the Arts in 2021. He has been awarded residencies at George Street Studio (now FAB), 215 Magill studies, and most recently the 2024 British Academy Residency in Rome.
Whilst in Italy, Ellis visited the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone and was inspired to translate his ceramic sculptural practice into lighting and furniture. Already a studio resident at 215 Magill Studios, Ellis began collaborating with Mark Jones, with their first piece 'Tingle Table' accepted as a finalist in the Clarence Prize and featured in the Journal of Australian Ceramics. This collaboration, together with their passion for supporting South Australian design and crafts people, gave birth to Skangaroovia.
Ellis is supported by Decimo in his creative team at Skangaroovia.
